2 Corinthians 6:1-13 (Ecclesiastes 1)
As we look to the day when Jesus comes again, let us not procrastinate this day. We were made to be stewards and to learn to be owners. It was so odd to also start Ecclesiastes today and read Solomon saying that all was meaningless then read Paul saying that we should dedicate ourselves to acquire God’s plan rather than money. These may seem to contradict each other, but the real power is that from a Godly perspective they actually support one another. Solomon’s book, Ecclesiastes, is wisdom literature and written from the human or temporal perspective while 2 Corinthians 6 is written from the spiritual or eternal perspective. Working and toiling for money is meaningless BECAUSE we cannot take it with us. What we sacrifice to earn, our heirs receive without effort, creating no thought as to how they were actually acquired! Earthly wisdom (Greek word Sophia) is folly and foolishness since acquiring it usurps the time that we should be spending to acquire God’s wisdom. So Paul actually agreed with Solomon and says the the wisdom of the world is foolishness to God and the wisdom of God is foolishness to the word! My experience is that many avoid Ecclesiastes for this very reason. It “seems” like Solomon is saying don’t waste time acquiring knowledge or thereby wisdom because it is a waste of time. Solomon IS saying that and Paul qualifies its true worth, meaning, and purpose - we are all one body of Christ - the Church and it is only what we do for the Lord that will last! To obtain the world’s wisdom IS meaningless. To obtain heaven’s wisdom is priceless! Praise Him by staying on target.
