Philippians 1:27 - 2:18
Paul says that no matter what happens that we should conduct ourselves in a manner that is worthy of the Gospel of Christ. "Worthy of the Gospel of Christ" are the operative words in this passage of Scripture. Paul was commending them for what they were doing and how they were acting AND he was reminding them of the importance to continue to do so! These words should echo in our hearts today. My heart grows increasing weary when I see what people say to others and how they act and treat one another. I know that the world has always been cold, but in this latter day I see Satan increasing in adherents! This phrase not only means to be kind and gentle, but also to be fearless. Paul says that they are not being frightened in any way. My head knows that what is happening to our world and country has been foretold, but my heart still aches. Humanity's inhumanity to humanity leaves me cold and numb, so I try my best to breathe life into the lifeless, warmth into the cold, and love into the loveless! As a reproof to the modern doctrine of prosperity, Paul writes that not only have we been blessed to believe in Christ but we also have been called to SUFFER" for Him. So much for the prosperity doctrine that is all the rage today. Paul clearly struggled, the Philippians struggled, and so shall we struggle, especially in this latter day! Paul said it best. "then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind." Phil 2:2. We are to value others above ourselves. This is an expression of love which is the foundation of any service from God. Jesus was the epitome of examples for us. If Jesus can lower Himself to humanity, leaving His deity behind to save us then we can serve others as He has served us. What a powerful image that we have of what comes from God. Let us take this same approach as we serve one another and this world with love. Praise him!
