Focus: Rom 1:1-17
Righteousness by faith is the very basis of the Gospel. It is a direct contrast of the Law if Moses, which was based on righteousness by self. Paul's writings are called the Pauline corpus and makes up most of the New Testament books. As a learned Pharisee, Paul was equipped as a master teacher to spread the Good News in a systematic way. Paul was just on the wrong side of it until his special encounter with Jesus. When Jesus gets a hold on us, we are never the same again! Having gotten his attention, Paul is transformed to the cause of Christ. Paul was also a Roman citizen and was acquainted with the law of Rome, so he was equally prepared to use his stature to navigate his own protection under the law of Rome. God prepared Saul of Tarsus (Paul) for such a time. Saul's transformation was so radical that God changed his name to Paul. I am constantly amazed at how the Lord uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. As zealous as Saul was to destroy The Way (as the new covenant church of Christ was named), Paul was equally as zealous defending the cause of Christ. From Saul the relentless murderer of the Saints to Paul, the determined Apostle to the Gentiles. No one can thwart God's plan. So let us develop our faith so that we might use that moving force for His Glory. Amen.
