Focus: 1 John 1 Living in the Light
So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:6-7 NLT
I am sometimes amazed how we can have the Truth of God but live like demons. It appears that today many Christians believe that our fruit does not need to match God's standard. We often see more selfishness and mob-boss behavior where love should abound! We are very sensitive about living the Gospel because many of us have come out of churches who preach love from the pulpit but act as ravenous wolves when they think that their actions cannot be seen. The pettiness that we have witnessed lately will astound any Christian diligently seeking to serve the Lord. John knew something about this and this is why he writes in 1 John. John wants us to understand him so he states his authority - he is an eyewitness and a direct disciple of Jesus Christ. What he is presenting is from Jesus and nearing the end of his life, he wants to cement some basic foundational principles of the Gospel - if we are going to live in the Light, then it will be a requirement to walk in the Light. What people do is a better indicator of the condition of their heart than their words. The brain can lie to itself when under the deceptive influence of Satan, but our actions will show proof positive what we believe; especially when we think no one is looking! So let us today look in the mirror. I am doing this with you. I am trying to let go my hurt and pain and allow the Spirit of God to replace it with sympathy and empathy. Jesus from the cross stated, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." This is our example that we need to forgive the absolute ignorance of others when they treat you with utter disdain and envy and when they use the blessing that which God has given them to extort and bribe others to follow while they demand loyalty from others and give none themselves. Let us forgive their ignorance for they know not what they do. Join me today family in letting go hurt that distracts our purpose in Christ. Vengeance is mine, I will repay says the Lord! For us we are to love all flesh. This is a challenge and a commandment to us all. Shalom.
